Alexandria's Nightstand

Alexandria didn't have a nightstand and that seemed like a good next project.  I like to make small tables with a unique top that has some character, however, I can get it a rut.  I decided a chess tabletop would be cool, again.  I used Brazilian cherry and red oak for the squares on the tabletop.  This color contrast was a little less than I wanted, but it did work with the wood budget because I had both wood species in stock.  I used a basic design I had used before, one drawer and a lower shelf.

I made this table at close to the same time that I decided that Nancy needed a new table next to where she sat when she was working on her computer.  There's a picture of both tables below.  Note that the drawer faces are attached to the drawers differently.  I was still attaching the drawer face using biscuits on Alexandria's table.  On Nancy's table, I used Miller dowels, however I didn't add dowels on the top to give them a symmetrical look.  I did do this on later drawer faces.
