Twin Mountain Master Bedroom Closet Shelves

When we had the house built in New Hampshire, we passed on having the builder install any shelves or clothes hanging rod in our master closet.  I wanted to build custom shelves and cupboards.  I chose to build the shelves and supports out of pine.  I wanted the shelf supports to be built into the upright supports so that there were no metal supports or connectors (see lower left picture).

The supports were made from three 1"x4" pine boards laminated together.  This "3-board lamination, is very strong and straight.  I like this method better than a single board support.  At the top and in the middle of the supports, I put in a horizontal 1"x6" support for the top and middle shelves.  The supports were a little tricky to put together because of the glue and the biscuits.  It's a long piece and I put in about 20 biscuits per board when I laminated them.  That's a lot of biscuits to line up and glue.  I did one thing that helped and that was to check that none of the biscuits were damaged or misaligned before putting on any glue.  This has become standard practice for me when a lot of biscuits are involved.

I used the same building method and material type when I built the master closet shelves in Louisburg.
