Adirondack Chairs
I built both of these chairs when we lived in Twin Mountain. Our builder lived in the same development as we did and I would go to him for additions and other building related tasks and items. I this case, I asked him if he could find some cedar for me so I could build a couple of Adirondack chairs. He got me some very good quality 5/8" cedar and at a very substantial price. I never saw Dave buy anything cheap. He just always bought high quality and got the best price he could. I can't argue with that philosophy, so I paid for the cedar without giving him any grief about the price. However, for the second pair of chairs, I found some 5/4" cedar decking at Lowes that was much less expensive and still made a nice chair, albeit with more scrap.

When I made the first pair of chairs, I made pine templates for all the individual pieces. I've held onto those templates because I like the design of the chairs, and I always wanted to make a couple of rockers to the same basic design. Maybe the rockers will climb up the build priority list sometime soon.

The top chairs pictured below were made from the 5/4" cedar decking. They have spent much less time out in the elements and have never been refinished. The bottom chairs have spent nearly their entire existence outside in the elements. I've refinished the bottom chairs multiple times, but the effects of weather, sun, and wind are oblivious.
