Paxson to Anchorage along the Glenn Highway and then on to Alyeska today!

After breakfast at the Denali Cabins, we'll be driving 310 miles from Paxson to Girdwood (location of the Alyeska Ski Resort) today.  We'll stop at the Wrangell - St. Elias National Park Visitor Center in Copper Center and then travel west along the Glenn Highway.  Once in Anchorage we'll visit the Alaska Native Heritage Center and the Anchorage Log Cabin Visitor Center.  Then we'll drive southeast on the Seward Highway to Girdwood, AK and the Alyeska Ski Resort to stay in our summertime ski chalet.  On the way, we might stop at the Potter Marsh Bird Sancturary south of Anchorage.

Wrangell-St. Elias NP

The breakfast at the Denali Cabins looks really good and is available from 8:00 am to 8:30 am so we'll leave the cabins after that.

It's 79 miles from our cabin in Paxson to the visitor center in Copper Center.  We'll be to the Visitor Center around 10:00 am.  Restrictions on our rental car prevents us from traveling into the national park so we'll spend a little extra time here to learn about the park.  I plan to stop in Glennallen for gas before the trip on the Glenn Highway

Glenn Highway

We're going from Glennallen to Anchorage on the Glenn Highway

The scenic Glenn Highway runs 180 miles from Anchorage to Glennallen.  We are traveling on it in the opposite direction so keep that in mind when looking at the things  described in the links below

Potter Marsh Bird Sanctuary

11 miles south of the Anchorage Log Cabin Visitor Center, there's a parking area on the east side of the Seward Highway giving access to a boardwalk into the Potter Marsh Bird Sanctuary.

The satellite view to the right shows a 1000 ft. walkway that circles around to the east returning to the parking area.

This may be a stop on the way south or on the way north depending on the weather and how we feel.  It will be after a long day of traveling and stops on the way south so we may wait until we are heading the other direction next week.

Condo at Alyeska

We plan on 3 nights here - nothing definite yet

Girdwood is a resort community at the Alyeska Ski Resort.  There are a few restaurants, bars, chair lifts, and a tram up the mountain in Girdwood.

(And, No.  The picture to the right is not our condo.  We plan on someplace somewhat smaller.)
